About the author

Ricky Butler was born in Rainham, Essex in June 1968 and soon developed a passion for football.
He attended his first match at Dagenham in 1980, although it was Arsenal who won his heart, and after a first visit to Highbury in 1981, he was hooked.
He became fascinated by the media coverage of football and wrote his first match report in 1979.
After earlier careers in sales, insurance and as a driving instructor, Ricky moved up North in 2001 and began writing about local football for the Darlington & Stockton Times.
Since then his journalistic career has really taken off. After studying the NCTJ Sports Journalism Diploma, Ricky has written for The Football League Paper, The Northern Echo, The Lancashire Times, as well as working for the media departments of both Dagenham & Redbridge FC and Accrington Stanley FC.
Ricky is currently the media manager of Northallerton Town FC while still writing for the Darlington & Stockton Times. He is also writing his first book.
